Rusty Chain - An Amber Ale That’s Good - And Good For The Community
Green Options Buffalo has teamed up with Flying Bison Brewery to launch Rusty Chain beer. By drinking this amber ale, you are supporting the Commercial District Bicycle Parking program, which has been established in partnership with the City of Buffalo to provide custom designed bike racks along the city’s thoroughfares.
As this rolls out to over 15 local bars and restaurants, you will be able to visit our website to learn how to get a rack installed in front of your business or see where they have already been installed.
Bicycle parking is a major factor in whether individuals choose to use a bicycle for commuting to work or for running errands. A part of our city’s transportation infrastructure, secure and accessible bicycle parking should be provided wherever people work and live. With forty percent (40%) of trips people make during the day occurring within 2 miles from where they live, and 80% of trips within a 5-mile radius; using a bike for transportation significantly helps households during an economic recession and helps mitigate volatile energy costs, while reducing the community’s need for expensive automobile parking – all while encouraging active, healthy lifestyles.
Many trips are also faster by bicycle than by car, especially short trips under a few miles. This means the bicycle is an ideal mode of transportation for a huge portion of the trips we all make in our daily lives.
This effort supports Green Options Buffalo’s mission to establish healthy, environmentally sustainable, community friendly transportation. www.greenoptionsbuffalo.org.
